IASARC Welcomes Aboard Jean Houde of IAMSAR Solutions
IASARC’s New Board Member, Jean Houde
The International Association of Search and Rescue Coordinators (IASARC) is proud to welcome Jean Houde to our board, Founder and CEO of IAMSAR Solutions, one of the world’s most prominent search and rescue (SAR) coordination training providers. Jean is a retired Royal Canadian Air Force SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) with 34 years of service in SAR.
As a member of our Board of Directors, Jean will help guide IASARC’s strategic vision as we endeavor to Advance the Profession of SAR Coordination. Currently, IASARC is developing a rigorous SAR coordination certification program to the highest international standards, ISO/IEC 17024:2012. This well-accepted standard specifies requirements for bodies operating certification of persons. It provides a framework for ensuring certification bodies operate fairly, reliably, and validly when assessing individuals.
IASARC’s mission spans all domains of SAR; land, maritime, and aeronautical. Our global focus ensures that we leverage the tremendous skills and abilities of our professional community worldwide.
Why SAR coordination certifications? In SAR, coordination errors can mean the difference between saving a life and notifying the next of kin of a tragedy. Certifications ensure that SAR coordinators are equipped with the tools, judgment, and procedural knowledge required to act decisively under pressure in an increasingly complex environment. A unified, standardized approach, grounded in global best practices, is crucial to advancing our professional competence.
